Mains to Meter Connections

Main to Meter involves establishing a new water service connection from Sydney Water or Hunter Water’s existing watermain located in the street to the approved water meter location on the property.

This process includes excavation, tapping into the authority’s main under live or shut-down conditions, laying the water service pipe to the meter location and installing the meter assembly in accordance with strict authority specifications.

GHP Plumbing & Civil ensures all works are compliant, pressure tested and certified, with minimal disruption to the public and surrounding infrastructure. www.opalwm.com.au

Sewer Encasement
(concrete encasement of Sewer Mains)

Sewer Encasement refers to the process of encasing an existing Sydney Water sewer main in concrete to make it structurally sound and protect it from loading or damage caused by new construction.

This solution is often required when proposed structures, such as homes, granny flats, pools, retaining walls, carports or garages are located within close proximity to an existing sewer main.

Encasement provides long-term durability, rendering the asset maintenance-free for up to 100 years, and is a Sydney Water-approved method for building over or adjacent to sewer infrastructure.

GHP specialises in these technically sensitive works and ensures all approvals, inspections and documentation are handled end to end.

Minor Works
Sewer Sidelines & Junctions

Minor sewer works typically include the installation of new property junctions (connection points) to existing sewer mains or the construction of sewer sidelines within private property boundaries.

These are often required for new dwellings, secondary dwellings, or subdivisions where additional sewer connections are needed.

In cases where the existing sewer main is not located within the property boundary, the sewer may be extended onto the property to facilitate proper connection.

GHP is accredited to perform these works safely and in full compliance with Sydney Water, Shoalhaven Water, Hunter Water and Central Coast Council design and construction requirements, ensuring seamless handover and connection to live infrastructure.

Major Sewer Construction

Major Sewer Construction is necessary in more complex or large-scale development scenarios where the existing sewer alignment conflicts with proposed structures such as basements, underground carparks, tunnels, lift shafts or deep foundations.  These works may include:

  • Diversions: Rerouting existing sewer mains away from the development footprint to ensure accessibility and prevent structural clashes.

  • Amplification: Upsizing or upgrading existing sewer pipelines to accommodate increased flow demands from new developments or urban intensification.

  • New Infrastructure: Designing and constructing new sewer mains, manholes, and associated infrastructure to support greenfield subdivisions or multi-unit projects.

GHP Plumbing & Civil has a long-standing reputation for delivering these high-specification sewer projects with precision, including full stakeholder coordination, environmental management and authority sign-off.

Watermain Construction

Watermain Construction includes the delivery of new potable water infrastructure to service new developments, as well as the modification of existing mains to suit changing site conditions or regulatory requirements. GHP’s capabilities in this area include:

  • Installation of new reticulation or trunk watermains.

  • Amplification of watermain diameters to increase flow capacity for high-density developments.

  • Diversions or lowering of existing watermains to avoid conflict with driveways, basements, or other new structures.

  • Installation of valves, hydrants, and metering assemblies.

All watermain projects are completed to Sydney Water, Hunter Water or Shoalhaven Water standards, including full testing, disinfection and pressure commissioning

Pressure Sewer Systems

In some areas, Pressure Sewer systems have been adopted in lieu of the traditional Gravity System.  In these situations, Pressure Sewer Systems are used to move wastewater from a property to the main sewer line using a small pump and tank system.

GHP Plumbing & Civil is highly experienced in the supply and installation of Pressure Sewer Units (PSUs), including excavation, plumbing, electrical connections, and final commissioning.

We can install both Sydney Water–approved pressure sewer systems and privately owned systems, depending on your development requirements.

Our team manages the full process from start to finish, ensuring the system is installed correctly, tested and fully compliant with authority or manufacturer specifications for reliable long-term performance.
